Maasai Culture Tour

You will have the opportunity to enter into one of their traditional dwellings and hear them sing and dance (and join in if you wish) and see their famous jumping abilities. This trip also offers the opportunity to buy Maasai crafts direct from the tribe.

Tanzania is a melting pot of cultures. 126 different ethnic groups call it their home. Probably the best known and most impressive are the Maasai people. With their distinctive customs and dresses they magically pull us into their spell. In “Olpopongi”, a 100 % authentic Maasai village, we spend a day with this fascinating tribe. Get to experience the Maasai’s marvellous dance, traditions, customs and rituals as we wander around the village.The Maasai have a rich cultural tradition and this includes crafts such as beautiful beadwork and intricate hairstyles that articulate the wearer’s position and stage of life.

You’ll be picked early in the morning from you hotel/lodge for the drive to Maasai village, west of Kilimanjaro. You’ll arrive the Maasai village just before lunchtime,  whereas friendly Maasai will greet you with a traditional welcome song and dance and some refreshing soft drinks. You will be guided around the village. visit the little museum where your guide will tell you all about the history, social organisation and tools of Maasai people – and there’s plenty of time for questions and conversation. Later on gain your energy by having traditional lunch. Following this deeply spiritual gathering, we will have a brief break during which you are welcome to shop for jewelry or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. A bush trek to learn about unique flora and how the Maasai use them will be another highlight. After that get ready to get back to your car and drive back to Moshi
